Something's happening on the beach. There's a few stakes in there.

Do a lot of people go on the beach around there. By the way I think it will be bigger then a smaller ride since it is on CPs blog, but who knows. I just hope the ride is more entertaining the Cedar Points commercials this year.

Its just my thinking but does that mound look a little small for a thrill ride because Skyhawk's footer was huge. The mound reminds me of a footer the size of Diamandback's footer. and a huge footer would be less stable then a small one in the sand

I'm not sure exactly where the stake is. So i couldn't tell you if a lot of people go around there. And my next trip to the point will not be until after the announcement is made. But if anyone else is going soon they should be able to tell us where it is.

There are stakes like this one near Ocean Motion (Ocean Motion is also for sale) and they stretch out far into the beach... I'm highly doubting that this is a flat ride...

I wouldn't read anything into those markings. It could all be just for walkways or a "boardwalk" extending in that area. It could be even worse: they could be recreating the old beach slide that ends up in Lake Erie. It's not for coaster footings...that's all man made beach, and the water table is about two feet down.

Well, they can build bridge piers in the middle of a river. So, I would guess that they could set a few coaster piers on a beach ? I'm not saying that it is a coaster, but the stake being on the beach certainly does not preclude it from being a coaster.

My son and I were at C.P. this past Friday and Saturday and since he is only 10 y/o he wanted a ride on Ocean Motion. I took him back there on Friday afternoon and got in line. We both saw the beach stakes; red dots from the entrance to the stadium and through the trees. We also saw the water lines marked. So I went up to the ride op who was a male maybe in his high teens or lower 20's in age. I asked him if OM was up for sale. His reaction was priceless. His eyes popped out and he stuttered this out, "Ewe, ummm, well.......how do I answer that. I am not supposed to say anything so can't comment."

I don't know if that means anything but could be the demise for OM. That area back there is rather big for anything. I will chime in with my 2 cents......
New Boardwalk and beach entrance where OM and stadium are....extending out onto the beach and going South down the beach line to WT midway. The OM either being relocated to former DD site OR put in storage until it sells plus the stadium being torn down at last. With the Boardwalk being added in 2 different yearly phases; the creation of a flat ride or Star Tower ride in that OM/stadium area. 2011 coaster? Not this time. But for 2012 along the boardwalk....yes I can see that.

Yep........it was just an observation I made while there last weekend and what the ride op said to me waiting in line for OM was just so shocking to me. It was as if he almost told me that yes OM is for sale but he couldn't make a statement on that. I was expected a more direct approach to my question. It was neat to see all of the available space in that area without OM and if the stadium was demolished..........well not to mention the painted dots and stakes in the sand.

An update... All stakes in the sand are gone ( or have been run over by the sand rakers at night ) but the mounds that correspond to previous pictures don't extend that far out...in fact, they are equal to the cement extensions for the ride queue for Wicked Twister. They are in no way markings for ride footers. That basically means they are extending the cement midway outward about twenty feet.

I will post photos when I get home tomorrow, but there are zero markings beyond a few feet of Ocean Motion. The only ride markings there are a series of double red dots that align with the walkway. There are blue marks for buried water and orange markings for order buried utilities. A series of flags all say ATT communications.

What does it all add up to?? There is no coaster coming next year. There will be a new thrill ride flat (or at the most a wild mouse) that fits into a small footprint including the Ocean Motion area and likely into the catering tent area. The Aquatic Stadium is going nowhere, at least not next season.

All markings and location are consistent with a midway extension and NOT any type of coaster.

Wild Mouse + Jumbo Jet + New Technologies = El Loco

It isn't going to be an El Loco....CP long ago learned not to install very low ride capacity attractions...You know an El Loco can't handle more than 4 riders per circuit times 3 cars on the track (One running, one unloading, one loading, that's CP's mantra)...That means 12 riders every 5 minutes = not going to happen in our lifetime.

RonAnnArbor thank you so much for saying that about low capacity rides! Why does everyone seem to want rides that you would see at your local state fair or smaller amusement parks like Indiana Beach? CP is to larger for any low capacity ride. Look at WT or Wildcat. I believe that the ride will be a flat ride or something like that. As much as I would like it to a wooden coaster along the beach that just doesn't look that is going to happen.

I am going to guess it will hold 64 people at least. What is it?....Star Flyer, 300 feet.
